The new Torrent Pharma pharmaceutical facility in Malta required a structured cabling infrastructure capable of supporting specialised laboratories, administrative areas and systems such as Wi-Fi, CCTV and access control.
Alberta, barpa’s partner in Malta, was responsible for installing the copper and fibre optic infrastructure, ensuring connectivity between the different areas of the building.
Challenge
The installation took place in a complex laboratory environment, with specialised machinery, technical equipment and several activities being carried out simultaneously.
The main challenge was to ensure proper cable routing, segregation and mechanical protection without interfering with laboratory operations or other installations.
Implemented Solution
The implemented infrastructure combines Cat.6A U/FTP copper cabling in laboratory and administrative areas with a fibre optic backbone comprising 48-core OS2 single-mode and 48-core OM4 multimode fibre.
This solution connects the building’s main IT spaces and supports the facility’s networking, security and communication systems.
The installation was carefully coordinated with other ongoing works on site. Upon completion, all copper links were individually tested and certified, achieving PASS results against the TIA Cat.6A Permanent Link test limit.
