The NEXT Delft building, located at Molengraaffsingel 8 in Delft (Netherlands), is a landmark project within the TU Delft ecosystem, one of Europe’s most relevant hubs for technological innovation and applied research. Designed as an innovation hub, the building hosts technology companies, start-ups and scale-ups, combining offices, laboratories and co-working spaces in a highly collaborative environment.
This project stands out as a reference because it clearly demonstrates, in practice, how a well-designed network infrastructure is a critical factor for innovation, scalability and the long-term sustainability of modern technology buildings.
The main challenge was to create a network infrastructure capable of meeting the high technical demands of a mixed-use building, with a high density of users, equipment and mission-critical applications.
It was essential to ensure consistent performance, high reliability and future readiness, while avoiding typical limitations such as electromagnetic interference, signal degradation over long distances or rigid solutions that could compromise spatial flexibility.
In addition, practical execution constraints had to be addressed, including limited space for rack installation and the need to comply with strict regulatory requirements, particularly regarding safety and fire reaction standards.
The solution followed an integrated approach, combining engineering expertise, product quality and specialized execution. WL ICT B.V., a barpa certified integrator, was responsible for implementing the entire structured cabling infrastructure.
A solution based on Cat.7 S/FTP copper cabling was selected, ensuring high electromagnetic performance and excellent resistance to interference, complemented by a multimode OM3 fibre optic backbone, providing high bandwidth, low latency and future scalability.
The infrastructure was organized using barpa Norma 4 racks, strategically distributed per floor, enabling efficient, orderly management and readiness for future expansion. The choice of technology and products reflects the barpa philosophy: robust, standardized solutions designed for long-term performance.
WL ICT B.V. is a network infrastructure integrator based in the Netherlands, specialising in the implementation of structured copper and fiber optic networks for corporate and technical environments. The company operates with a technical and quality-focused approach, ensuring compliance with the industry’s best practice standards.
The result is a high-performance network infrastructure, fully certified and aligned with the requirements of a technological innovation hub. The building now benefits from a solid foundation to support data-intensive projects, collaborative environments and continuous technological evolution.
This project demonstrates how a well-conceived infrastructure goes beyond connectivity: it builds trust, ensures operational continuity and protects long-term investment. A solution designed to grow with the building, meet future challenges and sustainably foster innovation.
